The Pillowtalk Breakout

After his departure from the X-Factor formed One Direction back in March 2015, Zayn Malik has now taken on the music industry solo. His single 'Pillowtalk' was released January 29th on RCA Records and quickly became the 25th song ever to debut at No.1 in the Hot 100, fighting off the competition from Drake, who debut at No.6 with 'Summer Sixteen' and Justin Bieber's two tracks, 'Love Yourself' and 'Sorry'.
There is nothing particularly special about the single 'Pillowtalk' I will know it today and sadly forget about it within hours. In fact, there are a couple of songs that one could say are unequivocally better.
The song consists of sex-soaked lyrics that sound like someone's first time, with lines like 'I'm seeing the pain, seeing the pleasure' and 'a place that is so pure, so dirty and raw'. The track carries a similar dark romantic vibe with provocative lines to that of The Weeknd. It lacks longevity due to the fact that it contracts of the very simple ideas of 'Hello', 'Sorry', and 'Don't', with its repetitiveness.
Yes!! this is the single that is supposedly 'Zayn Malik's transition from boy band heartthrob to adulthood' and it's a desperate attempt because it has been done time and time again, using the same concept of provocative descriptions. This has only been mastered by only a handful of people for example The King of Pop Michael Jackson.
HOWEVER, I like the beat, its watery sounds of alternative R&B and it time the sound can easily widen it's spectrum more than that of artists like Miguel, John Legend and Frank Ocean.
Zayn Malik is definitely an artist worth keeping an eye on. He has a lot to prove and hopefully he will use his advantage of growth within the music scene.
